What is required for applying for VSU?
As a first-year student, you will need:
- Official HS transcript
- Students who have participated in Dual Enrollment: An official college transcript is required in addition to your official high school transcript.
- SAT or ACT (VSU also allows Superscoring**)
- ACT 17 for math and reading
- Minimum GPA of 2.6, unweighted
- Other documents you can submit:
- Verification of Law Presence
- Immunization/Medical Form
Currently, for Fall 2023, we don’t require SAT/ACT scores if they meet a 3.2 unweighted GPA.
**What does Superscore mean: If you take the SAT twice, we will take the better of the two tests per subject to fit the needs of our SAT requirements. This applies if you have taken the ACT as well.
After applying, how long does it usually take to hear back?
Once you start your application, it takes 2 days for it to register in our system. Once you have fully submitted your application with all the required documentation, you should then receive a decision within 7-10 business days!
You can always stay up to date with your status in the application portal. If accepted, you will see a downloadable congratulatory message to post on your socials!
How do I apply for housing after being accepted?
After being accepted, log into the student portal, and you will see a link to apply for housing! For more information, you can always contact Housing and Residence Life or visit the housing website.
As a 1st year student, you are required to live on campus unless you confirm with housing that you live in VSU’s 50-mile radius. However, this must be approved by Housing and Residence Life.

No, while we need your official college transcript so we can see what credits transfer over, you will still apply as a first-year student; you will just have transferable credits for those awarded.
When is the deadline for applying to VSU?
We have what is called “rolling admissions” so while we do not necessarily have a deadline for our application, we always recommend that you apply sooner than later since you must be accepted to VSU to apply for Housing and that is first come, first serve on housing types.
