Guest Speaker Inspires SSCS Members

By Carlie Lingefelt

Matt McMurray strives to inspire, be inspired and live passionately through the work of helping others.

The house supervisor at Lowndes Associated Ministries to People in Valdosta spoke to the Student Society of Communication Scholars in October.

LAMP’s mission is to provide for the basic needs of the homeless and hurting members of Lowndes County and the surrounding areas, McMurray said. “All persons are created in the image of God and all of God’s children have the same need for food, clothing, shelter and love.”

“I really enjoyed listening to Matt, said Allison Sanderson, president of SSCS, who was moved by Matt’s passion for his work and life in general. “You can tell he is passionate about what he does and genuinely cares about the people he meets. He is going to be a world changer some day!”

McMurray’s goal is to become a professional motivational speaker.

SSCS Advisor Dr. Molly Stoltz said  he really emphasized the importance of a Speech Comm degree. “He sent the message that students could change the world through communication.”
