Nursing and Exercise Physiology programs collaborate for Exercise is Medicine initiative

EP faculty (Dr. Mark Kasper, Dr. LaGary Carter, and Sarah Thomas) met with Lois Bellflowers’ Community Nursing class recently to provide an overview of the Exercise is Medicine Initiative — a collaborative effort by the american college of sports medicine and the american medical association. EIM purpose: health care provides at every visit should assess physical activity at every visit as a vital sign. This should be followed with a brief counseling session regarding the benefits of PA specific to the patient and then writing an exercise RX w/ appropriate referral to an exercise physiologist.

Specific strategies were discussed relevant to how a nurse could implement such initiative into their daily practice.
