Paradise Lost

by Maureen Puffer-Rothenberg on January 13, 2010 in Odum Library

From Cambridge University’s Christ’s College– Darkness Visible will help students new to John Milton’s Paradise Lost, with summaries of each book, descriptions of major characters, a gallery of illustrations with interactive features, and much more– tons of stuff.

A dungeon horrible, on all sides round
As one great furnace flamed, yet from those flames
No light, but rather darkness visible
Served only to discover sights of woe . . .

Whitechapel Horrors

by Maureen Puffer-Rothenberg on January 6, 2010 in Odum Library

Literature in a Daily Dose

by Laura Wright on December 17, 2009 in Odum Library

DailyLit.com delivers bite-sized pieces of classic or contemporary books to your email or RSS feed for free each day. You can set the schedule for how often and what time installments are sent, and select from a variety of titles.

I haven’t tried it yet but I’m thinking that Frankenstein or Journey to the Center of the Earth would be fun titles to start with.

by Maureen Puffer-Rothenberg on December 7, 2009 in Odum Library

Cliff has a friend who waves two fingers in the air to let him know he’s telling her something for the second time.

Those of us whose friends would let us ramble on, and on, unchecked might benefit from a quick perusal of The Happiness Project‘s Seven Tips for Knowing if You’re Boring Someone.

Holiday Gift Plants

by Maureen Puffer-Rothenberg on December 3, 2009 in Odum Library

Should you receive a gift plant this season, this helpful chart from the New York Botanical Garden will help you keep it alive past the holidays– what to feed, how to water, whether to topdress, pinch, pot, or prune.

If you’re thinking of giving a gift plant, you might find inspiration in “Plants Liven Up the Holidays” from The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
