Calling all political junkies!

by Laura Wright on September 11, 2008 in Neat Stuff, Reference

Visit “Election 2008: A Selective List of Resources” to see video clips of candidates, visit political party web sites, follow media coverage, and more:http://www.valdosta.edu/~kensmith/election2008.shtml.

Odum Library’s government documents librarian, Ken Smith, has created this page to help us follow the candidates as well as the media coverage of this year’s elections. From the Government Documents home page at http://www.valdosta.edu/library/find/gov/index.shtml, click on the new “Election 2008” link.

What fun events do you want to have at Odum Library?

by Laura Wright on September 5, 2008 in Odum Library

Fall Explosion is a great excuse to have some fun at Odum Library. On August 16th 44 students participated in Treasure in the Stacks. Speed Dating, on August 30th, was just as much fun. Our goal for these events was to lure invite students into the library to meet the librarians, learn a little about the library, and (most importantly) have lots of fun.

Now is your chance to tell us what fun events you want to see happening in the library.

What events are you interested in?

  1. Speed Dating
  2. Digital Cameras 101
  3. Scavenger Hunts
  4. Game Night
  5. Citation workshop
  6. Miniature Golf (This one will take a lot of planning and prep time. Please let me know if you would want to participate and how interested you are.)
  7. Other ideas? Please share!

When do you want to participate in events?

  1. At the beginning of the semester?
  2. During the semester?
  3. Are weekdays or weekends better?

How important are free food and prizes?

Ok, so I know free food is vital and prizes are great, but are they the deciding factor in whether you’ll attend?

Any other thoughts you’d like to share?

What are you reading?

by Laura Wright on August 22, 2008 in Feedback

I just finished reading Grimspace for the second time. Ann Aguire’s second book, Wanderlust, comes out next Tuesday and I decided to gear up for the release by rereading Grimspace. Now, if I read a book for a second time, you know it has to be a really good book. My to-be-read pile is pretty substantial.

Grimspace is one of the best sci-fi books I read this summer. The action is non-stop. The characters are unique and engaging with their fair share of flaws and issues, which makes them all the more interesting. It’s hard to predict what the characters will do next, so I keep on reading to see what will happen next. (Predictable books are boring-blech!)

Plus, the cover art is really cool!

Please leave a comment and share what you are reading!
