Interaction Design: Moonlight Official Site
Interaction Design: Moonlight Official Site
We would like to feature this interaction design project by Watson DG for the Moonlight Movie. Recently the movie has won many prestigious awards at the Oscars (2017) and especially for the Best Picture. Asides from the reveal controversy, the kind folks over Watson DG created the site that drew many of our attention to its success. From the visual, the site offers a simple and clean experience. I gotta appreciate the detail for the headings with that thin ruler line across and used as a divider.
Watson Design Group is a digital studio based in Los Angeles, USA. Founded in 2005, they focus their work into creative and online development from web campaigns to digital marketing. You should definitely check out the live site, it’s a lovely interaction with the header vs the scrolling.
Moonlight is a transcendent coming-of-age film that is both agonizing and heartwarming- a true display of the humanity in us all. To engage in the dialogue surrounding the applauded film, Watson Design Group created a site that drew attention to the film’s success as well as to the emotional impact Moonlight has had on its audiences, all through the use of poignant articles, quotes, and audience commentary. It is a look at what an unprecedented film meant to audiences around the world.

Photography: Brasserie in Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto
Photography: Brasserie in Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto
Brasserie in Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is a photography project shared by Seth Powers on his Behance profile. I don’t post too much about architecture or interior design, however this one deserved a feature, it’s just awesome. I am fan of simplea and straight lines, as well as wood accents. This one has all of that in a grand way.
Brasserie restaurant & lounge in Four Seasons Kyoto, Japan. Designed by Shanghai-based architecture firm Kokaistudios. The site is located in the UNESCO protected area of the temples of Kyoto at the base of the mountains and faces a historical traditional Japanese pond surrounded by a magnificent heritage ikeniwa garden. Positioned between the arrival lobby and the garden, the restaurant is the core of the public space of the hotel, becoming in this way the main representative space of the entire resort. The architect conceived the space on with a strong architectural strategy by using the Kyoto traditional system to connect indoor to outdoor, creating a large architectural feature that frames the view of the garden.
Seth Powers is a Shanghai-based photographer specializing in architecture and interiors photography. He works primarily with architects and designers to render their vision with care and a keen eye for composition. Since coming to China in 2012, he has done work for firms such as B+H, UNStudio, Jacobs, and Coordination Asia. For more information check out http://www.sethpowersphotography.com/

Photography: Vatnajökull Glacier’s Ice Caves
Photography: Vatnajökull Glacier’s Ice Caves
The East from North America is getting a pretty big snowstorm at the moment, so I thought about going through the same cold lines and featured the work from Mikael Buck and his stunning Glacier’s Ice Caves from Vatnajökull, Iceland. Going through his project, it’s amazing with all the details and perspectives that makes you so stunned about this spectacular artifact from nature.
Mikael Buck is a photographer currently based in London, UK. Focusing his work also on digital photography and advertising; Mikael’s work from Iceland is absolutely stunning. Make sure to follow his work on Behance.
Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to be commissioned to travel to the Vatnajökull National Park in southern Iceland to photograph the ice caves found underneath the Vatna glacier. Here are the results of what was a truly inspiring trip. The light bouncing off the ice in every direction and the amazing textures created where the ice mixed with volcanic ash were unlike anything I have ever seen before.

Web Design & UI/UX: Team “Named” Concept
Web Design & UI/UX: Team “Named” Concept
We would like to share this web design project by Minjae Baek entitled: Team “Named”. There isn’t much information about what it is entirely about but the mixture of personal work/unsplash into his layout suddenly makes everything different and out of this world. I gotta love his visual approach, somehow the layout kind of reminds me of Abduzeedo’s.
Published on Behance is the work from Minjae Baek who is a designer and artist based in Seoul, Korea. Working as a senior designer at the Creamunion, you can definitely see how diverse is his work from graphic design to UI/UX. I look forward to see more of him in the future.

Web design: One Letter One Song UI/UX
Web design: One Letter One Song UI/UX
One Letter One Song is a web design, UI/UX and art direction project shared by Aykut Yilmaz on his Behance profile. There is not a lot of information about this project on the page but I assume it’s a game about music skills where you have to figure out the title of the song by know the first letter? Am I completely wrong? Anyways the visual design is bold, colorful and in a way a bit unique. The iconography is also beautiful with very thick strokes. There are some new trends in place like the very long shadow on the browse page, and they look quite wonderful. Take a look after the break and let us know what you think.
Aykut Yilmaz is a freelance senior art director from Istanbul, Turkey. For more information make sure to check out his profile at https://www.behance.net/aykutyilmaz

From Brilliant Color to Black and White, Two DPs Explain Their Process [PODCAST]
“To be able to show someone something is one of our universal languages as humans.”
Different DPs may have different styles and approaches to lensing a film, but the through-line is always the power that they have to show, not tell. No Film School sat down with two talented, up and coming DPs who shot award-winning films that first premiered at Sundance 2017, and are now continuing on the festival circuit.
Andrew Ackerman shot the colorful, underwater documentary Chasing Coral, and speaks about the numerous logistical nightmares of shooting underwater timelapse, as well as character arcs back on land. Ante Cheng shot the Justin Chon’s actor-director narrative Gook, which is a black and white period piece set amid the 1992 LA riots (not to mention the first feature film Cheng has shot!) Below is an excerpt from the discussion.
