A Marriage (and a Divorce) Through Pre-Production: The Unusual Collaboration Behind ‘Loveling’

Gustavo Pizzi and Karine Teles wrote the script for ‘Loveling’ in the throes of divorce; they didn’t know their bittersweet lessons on love would make the film so beautiful.

Loveling (known as Benzinho in Brazil) is the tale of a mother preparing to say goodbye to her oldest son leaving home at the end of the summer. The lead actress, Karine Teles, and the director, Gustavo Pizzi, were married when they started to write the script. Through divorce, they discovered the highs and lows of love and family breakdown, and these hard-learned lessons wove themselves into the film.

From impressionistic visuals that use color and framing to explore the characters’ inner emotions to an extensive dedication to the naturalism of the cast, their collaboration creates a poignant rumination on letting go.

Pizzi and Teles first sat down with No Film School on the eve of their film’s premiere at Sundance to talk about writing separately post-divorce, rehearsing to prepare for the distracting experience on set, and how through thick and thin, they never gave up on the film.

Lensless cameras could turn windows into sensors, even pointed the ‘wrong’ way

A research group at the University of Utah is rethinking cameras for machines and not humans. The result? A lensless camera pointed at the edge of a piece of glass, instead of looking through the glass.

First Sample Images of DJI Mavic 2 Pro

This has been the announcement of the day in the world of tech and drones! DJI announced the newest of their pretty substantial lineup of drones with the upcoming Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom. Let’s give a closer look at the Mavic 2 Pro because it’s coming with a 1″ CMOS Sensor from Hasselblad. What does it mean? It means that you are flying a drone with a camera that is equivalent of the <a href="https://www.amazon.ca/RX100-Advanced-Camera-20-1MP-Sensor/dp/B00KW3BJ1Y/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1535055527&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=RX100+Advanced+Camera+with+1.0%22+type+Sensor+DSC-RX100” rel=”nofollow”>Sony RX100. It’s pretty innovative (and insane!), just imagine the dynamic range on the picture quality. With today’s announcement, Hasselblad released a set of picture sample, let’s check it out. *Scoop, it’s quite stunning, just click on this hi-res image.

Awe-inspiring Masterpiece Drawings by Gurekbal Bhachu

Awe-inspiring Masterpiece Drawings by Gurekbal Bhachu

Prepare to be amazed by masterpiece drawings by Gurekbal Bhachu who is a self-taught artist based in London, UK. His muse? He takes as inspiration celebrities and characters like Eminem, Drake, Morgan Freeman and even Thanos from the Avengers: Infinity War movie. His level of details is what is the most awe-inspiring ones we have ever seen on ABDZ. Take Thanos for example, you can clearly see the levels of details from the color, texture, and highlights. A huge prop to Gurekbal for his incredible work.

Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. Thank you all for being patient with this drawing. I spent much longer on this than any of my previous pieces. I’m still quite unsure if I’m going to include a background as I made some mistakes and they’re quite visible so I kind of want to cover that up. It’s been exhausting but I don’t want that to stop me from going all the way and so over the coming days I’ll make that decision and keep you updated, far more than these past 2-3 weeks of absence lol. Bruce Lee drawing finished. It only took me 7 weeks to complete lol. In all seriousness, thank you all for your patience with this one. I think I’m slightly uninspired as of recent and that tends to carry through my work the longer I take until it’s complete. I have more exciting pieces planned but I still have the Kendrick drawing to finish. Probably one of my most favourite drawings I’ve completed. Though it didn’t have some of the challenges my previous drawings had such as drawing facial hair and wrinkles. This piece presented some of it’s own, most of which being the droplets of sweat on the forehead/skin and creating a much smaller pore texture than I’m used to. It’s become clear to me as it probably has to you that these drawings have been taking me much longer than they did before so I just wanted to thank you all for being patient with me and providing support as well as sound advice, I couldn’t be more appreciative for that. Much love ❤️ Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 Paper: A4 Bristol Board (Winsor & Newton) Eraser: Tombow Mono Zero Blending: Cotton Bud/Q-tip/Dry Paintbrush Highlights: White Uni Posca Paint Pen

The longest I’ve ever spent on a drawing (roughly 2 months) and I’d say my most detailed piece too but what took the most time weren’t the details themselves but rather the challenge they presented. I can’t tell you how many days it took me to understand the depth of drawing the white hair on his head and not only that but trying to convey it correctly on white paper. Art isn’t just about knowing the limits of your ability and what you can do to improve them, but the limits of the tools & materials you use also. With that being said, I just wanted to say thank you for all the support both here and on twitter over the course of this piece, I truly appreciate that you share the same passion in watching a drawing unfold as I do, much love as always ❤️ Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 Paper: A4 Bristol Board (Winsor & Newton) Eraser: Tombow Mono Zero Blending: Cotton Bud/Q-tip Highlights: White Uni Posca Paint Pen #art #arts_gate #art_supernova #artistic_unity_ #artist #pencil #illustration #drawing #sketch #artistic_nation #spotlightonartists #wip #worldofpencils2017 #instaart #artofdrawingg #drawinganatomyandart #artistic_dome #young_artists_help #art_worldly #art_spotlight #draw #duende_arts_help #artfido #art_realism_ #artistuniversity #gsinghb #sharingart #illustratenow #gurekbal

Roughly four weeks of work and a lot of procrastination and my drawing of Al Pacino is finished. Even though there are many areas of this piece in which I struggled where I usually don’t, I really do consider this my favourite. I personally think the addition of using a white paint/gel pen for highlights on the pores of the skin is what gives this piece an edge over the others I’ve drawn but I know that this process still requires a lot of fine-tuning. I’m relieved that this drawing didn’t take as long as my last one since I’ve been putting more of an emphasis on details but spending a month on it can be quite straining so I really appreciate all the support and feedback throughout the whole process, it really means a lot to me, so thank you ❤️ For those interested in purchasing a print of this piece, please visit gurekbal.com Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 Paper: A4 Bristol Board (Winsor & Newton) Eraser: Tombow Mono Zero Blending: Cotton Bud/Q-tip Highlights: White Uni Posca Paint Pen #art #arts_gate #art_supernova #artistic_unity_ #artist #pencil #illustration #drawing #sketch #artistic_nation #spotlightonartists #wip #worldofpencils2017 #instaart #artofdrawingg #drawinganatomyandart #artistic_dome #young_artists_help #art_worldly #art_spotlight #draw #duende_arts_help #artfido #art_realism_ #artistuniversity #gsinghb #sharingart #illustratenow #gurekbal

Completed drawing of Samuel L Jackson. The longest a drawing has ever taken me; almost 7 weeks. When I mentioned I wanted to prioritise detail in my work again, I didn’t think it’d take this long. And that about wraps up my drawing of Kanye West. Extremely pleased with how this turned out. I know I said that I wanted to fill the background with either a solid shade or a pattern but I think a plain background works best here. I have to mention how many were wondering why I decided to draw him and I know his public image gets a bad rep from many people but the truth is, strictly as an artist, there is so much to pull from his discography and be inspired by, I found it fascinating to go back to the music I listened to growing up and now that I’m older, understanding the transition in his work. Each project he has worked on is uniquely it’s own and tells a very specific story about who he was at that time and I deeply appreciate an artist’s ability to be vulnerable within their work. To add to that, I want to extend my appreciation towards you for the love and support on my work, thank you all so much for the kind words and compliments, I’m forever grateful, much love as always ❤️ Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 Paper: A4 Bristol Board (Winsor & Newton) Eraser: Tombow Mono Zero Blending: Cotton Bud/Q-tip Highlights: Sakura Souffle White Gel Pen #art #arts_gate #art_supernova #artistic_unity_ #artist #pencil #illustration #drawing #sketch #artistic_nation #spotlightonartists #wip #worldofpencils2017 #instaart #artofdrawingg #drawinganatomyandart #artistic_dome #young_artists_help #art_worldly #art_spotlight #draw #duende_arts_help #artfido #art_realism_ #artistuniversity #gsinghb #sharingart #illustratenow #gurekbal @art.realism

After restarting and so many hours of work and readjusting, I finally managed to complete this drawing of @badgalriri to the best of my ability. I think the most important lesson for me to take away from this is that, of course not every piece is going to be my best work. The effort I put in, shouldn’t go unnoticed to myself regardless of the outcome. Even if I tried and failed, it was still the hard work that mattered. And of course, this is far from failure but I did notice I was unable to put forth the level of detail I usually do. With all that said, I did appreciate all the comments, compliments and suggestions throughout the process, thank you for staying with me and watching it all pan out. When a drawing is completed, it really does come with a sense of satisfaction. It’s over, I’ve poured my energy into it. But somewhere a long the way is when it was at it’s peak, the greatest part of it for me is still in it’s progress because it moves from looking nothing like it at all to having depth and form. At any point during that time, I could have decided to approach it differently, there was possibility, and with that comes artistic liberty. Similarly, the same can be said for the character arc of Jesse Pinkman (@glassofwhiskey) in Breaking Bad himself. The options we have and the choices we make are always the interesting parts. Thank you all for sharing your kind words and support during the process of this drawing. It’s always appreciated. Much love 🙂 Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 Paper: A4 Bristol Board (Winsor & Newton) Eraser: Tombow Mono Zero Shading: Cotton Bud/Q-tip #art #art_hyperrealism #_tebo_ #artistic_unity_ #artist #pencil #illustration #drawing #sketch #artistic_nation #spotlightonartists #wip #worldofpencils2017 #instaart #artofdrawingg #drawinganatomyandart #artistic_dome #young_artists_help #art_worldly #art_spotlight #draw #duende_arts_help #artfido #art_realism_ #artwork_support #gsinghb #sharingart #illustratenow #gurekbal @art.realism

And we’re done! Feel free to tag @lanadelrey in this drawing if you’d like 🙂 Have to say that this portrait was a change of pacing from my last two for sure only because I couldn’t get the face as smooth as it appeared in the reference and also the fact that it takes a lot less of the paper than the others did, making it harder to squeeze the details in. Thank you all for the support, as always. I enjoy reading your input and support, it truly means more than I can put into words. Tupac Shakur. First drawing of 2017. Was quite skeptical (as I always am) about how this piece was going to turn out at first because it is one of the more zoomed in portraits I’ve worked on. What’s honestly the best thing about posting my work online is that many of you share the same passion as I do for drawing so I’m thankful for the contribution you all have given along the way. It inspires me to want to continuously get better any way I can. However, never before have I been asked so many times what tools I use over the course of a drawing so I’ve listed them below lol. I was able to acquire all of these tools from Amazon in the UK but I’m not sure if they are as easy to find in other locations as they are here. Any questions you have, be sure to leave them down below 🙂 Tools and equipment used: Paper: A4 Bristol Board (Winsor & Newton) Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 Eraser: Tombow Mono Zero #art #art_hyperrealism #_tebo_ #artistic_unity_ #artist #pencil #illustration #drawing #sketch #artistic_nation #spotlightonartists #wip #worldofpencils #instaart #artofdrawingg #art_hyperrealistic #artistic_dome #young_artists_help #art_worldly #art_spotlight #draw #duende_arts_help #artfido #art_realism_ #artwork_support #snaptweet #artmg03 #illustratenow #pashaparvez @art.realism

“Exit Walter White, Enter Heisenberg” As always, I would like to thank you for your support and appreciation over the course of this piece. It reminded me that art is a journey, not a destination, at least in portraiture, because for the most part, you already know how it’s going to turn out from the photo you’re referencing. Where the magic lies is coming to realise how tone shapes depth, that negative space is just as important as the space you shade in, that by understanding that each component of the face works together and not separately you can get a deep sense of perception. That’s the beauty of it and your interest in the progress of it all allowed me to realise there’s more to art than what meets the eye. It’s the process of creation. #art #art_hyperrealism #_tebo_ #artistic_unity_ #artist #pencil #illustration #drawing #artistic_share #artistic_nation #spotlightonartists #wip #worldofpencils #worldoftalents #artofdrawingg #art_hyperrealistic #artistic_dome #young_artists_help #art_worldly #art_spotlight #arts_gallery #tacart #artfido #arts_secret #artwork_support #snaptweet #artsanity #illustratenow #pashaparvez

Luscious Watercolor pieces by Kseniia Yeromenko

Luscious Watercolor pieces by Kseniia Yeromenko

Watercolor is such a beautiful and intricate technique. I’m always taken away by the subtlety of watercolor pieces. It is like artists have a magic wand and create these beautiful stories with their work. And if you like to imagine what is behind an artwork, you will probably think that Kseniia Yeromenko is always hungry or always thinking about food. She creates amazing watercolor pieces that will certainly make you hungry. From pizza to sushi, pretzels to eggs, burgers to fries, Kseniia has a great hand for depicting items we love to eat.

Get that napkin ready because you will be salivating after you see these pieces. The details and beautiful colors of Kseniia’s work will certainly take you on a food related journey. It is almost food porn. Take a look. And remember to visit her Behance page for more.

I was born in Melitopol, Ukraine and currently live in Kiev. When I was younger, I enjoyed painting people and when I turned 7 my parents registered me in art school. A few years later I had to quit the school because of progressing problems with my vision. I was able to commence painting again, when I was 15. I studied fine art in art college. Upon graduating I was accepted into Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Fine Arts and studied graphic design.

Eventually, I realized that working with graphic design software was not my cup of tea and that I enjoyed creating art with my hands. As a freshman in Academy I had an assignment to depict an object of my choice using nine different techniques. I chose to paint cupcakes. I received an A for my project and my fellow students loved it as well. That’s when I decided to paint a few more cupcakes, doughnuts and cookies and started selling my paintings on Etsy. Then I added pizza, burgers, and fries to my collection.

Although I can work with oil, acrylic and gouache and different graphic mediums I prefer using watercolors. It is quite a difficult and interesting technique for me. I prefer squirrel and kolinsky brushes and sometimes use synthetic ones. People often tell me that my artwork makes them hungry, and I am pleased to hear that!

Endless Summer vibes with Kate Wadsworth’s stylish illustrations

Endless Summer vibes with Kate Wadsworth’s stylish illustrations

I love checking out the illustration hashtag on Instagram. It is a great source of inspiration and an amazing way to find new artists. It was in one of my browsing adventures that I found the beautiful illustrations of Kate Wadsworth. The striking colors she uses and captivating subject got my attention right away. After checking out more of her work on her website and Behance I was even more in awe with her pieces. It was like I was being transported to a parallel universe filled with sun, waves and fun. Simply put, her illustrations made me smile.

Since we know that sharing is caring and that there is nothing better than inspiring our readers, we are showcasing here a few of Kate’s stylish pieces. These creative, bold and colorful pieces will certainly make your inspirational juices run faster. We have illustrations from two of her latest collections. Take a look and also visit her website and Behance for more details about her and her art. Also, all of Kate’s illustrations are done in acrylic and colored pencil on wood panels. And she is the one building her panels. Talk about talent and multi tasking. 😉

Kate Wadsworth was raised on the beautiful east side of Oahu, Hawaii, where she currently lives as an illustrator and graphic designer. She spent several years living on the East Coast where she received her BFA in Communication Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond – a multicultural city that strengthened her interest in figurative art and urban sketching. Equally inspired by the natural world, she loves to experiment with bold colors, exaggerated shapes, and purposeful line work to tell stories with subtle but deliberate symbolism.

28 Summers

28 Summers is a brand new collection for a solo show. Kate based the pieces on her recent move back to her hometown after living many years across the country. Her work for this show was a nostalgic reflection of her endless summer days growing up in Hawaii.

East To West

East to West is a collection inspired by a cross country trip Kate took a couple years ago.

Endless Summer vibes with Kate Wadsworth's illustrations

Third Beach, 12×16” Acrylic, colored pencil on wood panel. This piece was inspired by a beach in Forks, Washington, where the washed up driftwood is full grown trees eroded away from the earth.< We hiked 1.5 miles through Olympic National Park, and set up camp in a maze of fallen sitka spruce and western hemlock. Needless to say we had more than enough firewood to keep us warm through the night.

Endless Summer vibes with Kate Wadsworth's illustrations

The Guides, 16×20” Acrylic, colored pencil on wood panel. This piece is inspired by an 8 mile hike through the scorching Havasu Canyon to the village of Supai, in the Havasupai Indian Reservation. Another 2 miles will get you to a beautiful oasis of turquoise waterfalls.

Endless Summer vibes with Kate Wadsworth's illustrations

Vernal Falls, 16×20” Acrylic, colored pencil on wood panel. This piece is inspired by a trip to Yosemite National Park. We took a 0.7mile hike through the Mist Trail to a granite staircase of 600 steps to the top of Vernal Falls. From the top of the 317ft falls, you can see a beautiful view of Yosemite Valley. Instead of hiking back the way we came, we continued on the John Muir Trail to see Nevada Falls and Emerald Pool.
