Congratulations to Rebecca Murphy, Georgia Prevention Project grant awardee! Georgia Prevention Project (GPP) and Valdosta State University have collaborated for the purpose of educating college students on the dangers of non-medical prescription drugs use. The partnership is part of a grant funded by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). GPP partners with the Valdosta State University Peer Health Educators and utilizes the Generation Rx Collegiate Toolkit for training purposes. According to the SAMHSA, 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, young adults aged 18 to 25 were more likely to misuse prescription medication than any other age group. The GPP seeks to provide resources for and raise awareness about the dangers of prescription drug abuse, which has the potential to derail college students’ careers along with their well being.

Rebecca Murphy is Associate Director of Health Promotions and Wellness at Valdosta State University and VSU Well-Being Liaison & Co-Chair.
