Tom Vanderbilt‘s Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What It Says about Us) (call number BROWSE TL152.5 .V36 2008) explains, among other things, why drivers won’t merge lanes until the last possible minute. Pick your peeve; Vanderbilt’s probably addressed it.
