Faces of VSU | Katherine Niles

    September 10, 2018

    Meet Katherine Niles

Year: Freshman | Major: French | Hometown: Tampa, Florida

    _______________________________________________________________

    Tell us about your major.

“I’m actually from Russia — I was adopted — and their second official language there is French, so I would really like to be able to go back one day and do study abroad and be a translator. I want to translate history books. My parents don’t speak Russian, so I’ve always just taught myself how to do it. Here I’m able to learn it and really connect better with where I am from.”

    Why did you choose VSU?

“I didn’t want to stay in-state for college because I had just done three years of virtual school, so all of my high school was all on my laptop. I didn’t go out. So I wanted to have an actual college experience. So far it’s been great. I love it. There’s a lot more freedom. There’s a lot less ‘You have to be home at this time’ or whatever. I’ve just met a lot of people that I wouldn’t have had I not gone here.”
