    Meet Alpha Phi Alpha!

    July 28, 2021

Get to know the Mu Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. with questions answered by President Messiah Taylor Gay!

VSU: When was your chapter founded and chartered on the Valdosta State University campus?

MG: The Mu Omicron chapter was chartered on Monday, May 31, 1976, on the campus of Valdosta State College now known as Valdosta State University

VSU: What is your chapter’s philanthropy or mission?

MG: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

VSU: Tell us about your chapter.

MG: The Mu Omicron Chapter was chartered by 8 outstanding men who faced a lot of adversities but still prevailed. We have been on Valdosta State’s campus for 45 years and have brought many talented brothers into our organization. We pride ourselves on service and continue to advocate for our communities.

VSU: What made you personally want to join this chapter?

MG: The members of this organization played a big role in the reason why I wanted to join. They were very influential men who were in other organizations that I was also in. They lead all over campus, exemplifying the leaders of the organization from the beginning stages until the present day.

VSU: Is there anything about your chapter that you are especially proud of?

MG: We are especially proud of the impact that this chapter has made on VSU’s campus. We’ve won numerous chapter of the year awards, have had multiple Homecoming Kings, and a former SGA President who is now an alumnus of the chapter.
