Years have led up to this very important day, GRADUATION! Now, take time to congratulate yourself because you succeeded! As the countdown to the big day begins, you might find yourself asking, “What’s next for me?”
Interested in graduate school?
Graduate school is for those who are interested in continuing their education beyond their undergraduate degree. Attending grad school may help you resolve any uncertainties you have about your future and expand your knowledge in the field of your choosing. This is a great option if you still aren’t quite sure what career you want to go into. Want to stay at VSU for grad school? Check out the Graduate School website to learn more!
Applying for jobs or internships?
The job search can be frightening but don’t worry. Your peers are in the same situation deciding what to do with their future after graduation. There are large organizations and seasonal employment constantly looking to hire, whether you have a dream job in mind or are searching for a part-time job. If you want to start a job right after graduating, you should start looking months in advance because the job hunt could take some time. Aside from the job hunt, networking is extremely important when entering a field. This could help you land the chance to interview for the position you’ve been hoping for.
Preparing for interviews?
After applying for jobs, have you been contacted for an interview? Here is how to prepare! There are many ways to communicate with interviewers, including in-person, video conferencing, and over the phone. Each form of communication calls for a few tiny adjustments to your presentation to emphasize why you’re the best candidate.
Research the company, your interviewer, and current developments in the industry. What objectives, successes, or achievements have distinguished them as industry leaders? Knowing who is hiring you and what they stand for might go a long way toward differentiating you from other applicants during the interview. Find out what they are seeking in terms of specific skills or experience, and use that information to be the most appealing and suitable candidate you can be!
No matter what, just remember to trust the process!
Everyone has a different path after graduation and there is no perfect way to reach your goals. Explore the options available to you and decide which one is best for you! The Office of Career Opportunities can also help you with this journey
