About the Collection

Jeannette and Charles Kessler have given the VSU Archives and Special Collections over fifty items from their extensive travels in East Asia. Items include 3000-year-old Ban Chiang Pottery from Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, and other countries, and a collection of Tibetan photographs. Jeannette was a teacher and Charles was an accountant who worked and then traveled in East Asia in the 1980s-2000s. Their valuable and large collection represents an exciting gift for the VSU Archives. As part of a Welcome to School gallery exhibit, we are showing a few pieces of the Kessler Collection. On display are two antique weavings, one from Sumatra and one from Thailand. We also present two photographs from an exhibit created by Charles Kessler from pictures he took in Tibet in 1999 and 2000: “Robed Man” and “In Her Sunday Best.” More of the collection will be on display in Spring of 2012.
