We couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear when we came across the latest illustration work of Amit Shimoni, a young Israeli artist based in Tel Aviv. During his time serving in the military service from 18-21 years of age, Amit started painting abstract art to express his emotions. After his military service, while backpacking in Northern India for a few months, he finally acknowledged that creating art would be his life mission. Enter his latest, most creative work, Hipstory.
“I wanted HIPSTORY to re-imagine the great leaders of modern history and place them in a different time and culture era- ours. I wanted to created a sort of mirror- a mirror that on the one hand is supposed to make one smile, and on the other to make him think. As I see it, criticism doesn’t always have to be poignant it can simply be a method to arouse discussion and show things under a certain light.”
We hope you enjoy this smile-inducing gallery of clever illustrations as much as we do of our great leaders portrayed as modern-day Hipsters. Also be sure to check out a behind the scenes look at Shimoni’s process for creating his Einstein work here. Shimoni’s work is available for purchase on his site too. I’ll be ordering my Obama print tomorrow.
