More Marvelous Illustrations by Michal Lisowski

More Marvelous Illustrations by Michal Lisowski

Back in 2011 we featured for the first time the fantastic work of Polish artist Michal Lisowski. Back then you could already see the style he would pursue in most of the artworks you’ll see today.

Here are some of his latest work. I really love this style. His concept art works and general illustrations are super stylish and I enjoy his urban scenes, with an awesome sense of motion. These are only a handful of his work! For more of it, please visit his portfolio at ArtStation! I hope you enjoy these. Cheers! 😉

5 Reasons to Apply to Showcase at SXSW 2018

2017 SXSW Showcasing Artist Lewis Del Mar

Showcasing Artist applications are open for SXSW 2018, and here are few good reasons why you should apply now, before time winds down any further. If you’ve already made your mind up to apply, you will want to read tips on how to make the most of your application from the Music Festival team.

Find a new audience

At SXSW 2017, 75.1% of domestic Showcasing Artists listed expanding their audience as a main focus of performing, and winning over new fans was the most popular reason to perform for both domestic and international artists. SXSW is unique from many other music industry events because our audience is not solely comprised of people attending for music, which means there are a lot of fresh ears that have yet to hear you. In fact, in the past few years we have continued to see more and more SXSW Interactive attendees checking out music showcases in the evenings after conference programming.

Attend the SXSW Conference

Less than half of the Showcasing Artists who perform at SXSW indicate that they attended Music sessions at the 2017 SXSW Conference. We understand that many of the bands performing keep very busy schedules during the event, and that extra time can be the most elusive resource, but these conference sessions are highly informative about the future of the music industry. We highly recommend taking some time before arriving to go through the Conference schedule and identify any sessions that may be able to take your career to the next stage.

Connect with Fellow Musicians

This is the second most common reason for performing at SXSW cited by domestic artists, and third with international artists. More than 2,000 Showcasing Artists performed at SXSW this past March, and this large pool of artists makes SXSW an ideal place to meet future collaborators. If this is one of your goals, we recommend researching other artists you may want to meet by staying on top of SXSW news and our Schedule page, and attend as many events as possible while you’re here.

Furthering Your Career Goals

SXSW Showcasing Artist goals include: find sync opportunities, find distribution, sign to a label, sign with an agent, get attention from concert and festival promoters, find a manager, and many more. With such a heavy music industry presence, SXSW is an ideal place to achieve these goals. By taking an account of what your artistic project needs to go to the next level, and staying focused on your performance, you stand the best chance of success. These opportunities are the reasons why 78% of domestic SXSW 2017 artists are planning to apply for SXSW 2018.

Make New Friends

Don’t hold it against us for ending on a sentimental note. SXSW brings together tens of thousands of people annually to create, explore, discover, and celebrate each other’s ideas and passions. While not every artist gets a million dollar record deal or picked up for support on a stadium tour, everyone gets to participate in this large creative environment and make new connections with other like-minded individuals. The SXSW community that sustains the event is the strongest and most accessible asset offered to you if you perform or attend. In fact, most people attending SXSW start getting to know other attendees at the airport on the way to Austin, long before they even set foot in downtown Austin.

Apply Now

In addition to being a great time to apply to showcase, now is also the best time to register to attend SXSW 2018 and book your hotel.

2018 SXSW Film Submission Tips: Early Deadline August 25 [Video]

Only a few days left until the early film submission deadline on Friday, August 25. If your film isn’t quite ready, don’t worry. We still have two additional deadlines before submissions officially close for SXSW 2018. Check out our quick tips below.

Film Submissions Quick Tips

  • Remember that you must have a secure link to your film ready to go before you complete your application.
  • While submitting by the Early Deadline will keep some extra money in your pocket, we never want filmmakers to rush their films, as we will only consider the first cut submitted. So take your time!
  • Find out more information about deadlines and fees here.
  • Questions? Find answers in our Film FAQ.
  • If you are ready to submit, take a few minutes to watch our How to Submit Your Film video posted above!

Communication is key. After you’ve submitted we know that you will continue to work out your plans for the future of your film. If any information about your film changes after you’ve completed your application, let us know. If you’ve been accepted to another festival, added a sales agent, or changed a major aspect of the film itself, email filmfest@sxsw.com to let us know.

Also, have patience. We know waiting to hear from us can be excruciating, but it takes a lot of time for us to hone down the program into its final iteration. We are evaluating films through January so just because you haven’t heard from us yet, but your friends have, doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about you. Everyone who submits a film to us will hear from us by February 9. Only after that date, email us if you haven’t heard anything.

A Collection of Solar Eclipse Photography

A Collection of Solar Eclipse Photography

On August 21st, 2017, the people across North America were able to witness a total solar eclipse from Pacific to Atlantic coasts. In other countries, only a partial eclipse was visible. The last time when a total solar eclipse was visible in the entire United States was on June 8, 1918. It was amazing to see how people coming together to carefully look at our beloved moon crossing the sun to turn day into darkness. It was great to see so many of us taking the time to create and make for this special day. We have selected a few pictures that really caught our attention, hope you will like them.

My Favourite

Photo by @dave.krugman Today’s #SolarEclipse traced its path of totality — the geographic line along which the sun is entirely blocked from view by the moon — across the United States, from the woods of Oregon to the fields of South Carolina. Its rarity inspired millions to turn their eyes and lenses skyward, including New York-based photographer Dave Krugman (@dave.krugman), who made a trek to Nashville, Tennessee, to see this first total solar eclipse in the US in 38 years. “This was a flashpoint moment I didn’t want to miss,” says Dave. “Seeing the sky go dark and a ring of fire suddenly appear was an extraordinary experience. The light was eerie, otherworldly. It’s surely a moment I’ll never forget.” 🌞🌝 Watch our Instagram story featuring @billnye to see scenes and views of the solar eclipse across the US. 😎

In this video captured at 1,500 frames per second with a high-speed camera, the International Space Station (@ISS), with a crew of six onboard, is seen in silhouette as it transits the sun at roughly five miles per second during a partial solar eclipse, Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 near Banner, Wyoming. Onboard as part of the crew are: NASA astronauts Peggy Whitson, Jack Fischer (@Astro2Fish), and Randy Bresnik (@AstroKomrade); Russian cosmonauts Fyodor Yurchikhin and Sergey Ryazanskiy (@SergeyISS); and ESA (@EuropeanSpaceAgency) astronaut Paolo Nespoli (@Astro_Paolo). A total solar eclipse swept across a narrow portion of the contiguous United States from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina.
