Watch: This Simple Exercise Will Make You a Better Director
All you have to do is watch a bunch of movies.
There’s no easier way to learn how to make a movie than by watching a bunch of movies. The trick is not to be a passive audience member. As you watch, look to deconstruct the film in as many ways as you possibly can. In breaking down the most minute details (such as editing, framing, types of shots etc.), the intentions behind a director’s choices grow more and more evident.
If we’re trying to learn from the best, then there’s no better entry point than through a combination of The Nerdwriter and Paul Thomas Anderson. in the video below, today’s premiere video essayist takes us through a simple film analyzation exercise that he likes to employ when watching movies. Let’s call it the “Count The Shots Method.”

SXSW Film Festival Headliner Atomic Blonde in Theaters Now [Video]
“This was really a job that was a bit of a dream come true, I developed this five years ago from very, very little. You never know the journey of a film, and to be here today, and to have the film that we have, and how incredibly proud we are of it, and how it turned out, happens very rarely, ” – Atomic Blonde Cast Member, Charlize Theron.
Much like Baby Driver and The Disaster Artist, SXSW audiences were exhilarated at the world premiere of Atomic Blonde at the SXSW Film Festival in March, seeing for the first time director David Leitch’s action packed cold-war thriller, starring Theron and James McAvoy, equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery. Check out the SXSW Q&A and get to a theatre for this exciting film!
Leitch is an actor, writer, producer, stunt coordinator, and film director. He made his directorial debut in 2014 with John Wick, co-directed by Chad Stahelski. He begins production on the highly anticipated Deadpool 2 this summer.

Amazing Architecture Photography of ICC
Amazing Architecture Photography of ICC
Lars Stieger is a freelance designer and photographer from Hamburg, Germany posting some incredible posts on photography and architecture on his Behance profile. Most of them are about architecture or parts of the urban landscape. The difference is the color treatment applied to the photos and of course the capture itself. The composition is flawless in my opinion. It might look easy to do that, but I challenge you to go out to your downtown area and snap some photos. After doing that you will be able to understand how hard it is to capture images like the ones like the Internationales Congress Centrum Berlin or ICC project that Lars shared.

How ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ DIT Francesco Sauta Spun a Web With ACES
On-set color workflow keeps changing, and the ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ team tried the brand new ACES workflow on this summer’s hit edition of the franchise.
After years of using the traditional Rec. 709 HD color space, Spiderman: Homecoming DIT Francesco Sauta and cinematographer Salvatore Totino implemented the ACES color management workflow for the first time on this year’s superhero reboot. The ACES system is designed to help filmmakers manage their color workflow from capture through distribution and help match cameras and formats throughout production. Despite a few small hiccups, on this project it helped the pair maintain color fidelity for the signature red and blue web slinger.
“Even with ACES, you still need to know what you are working with, what the monitoring format will be, and what each camera can do.”

Interaction Design & UI/UX: Kickstagram, an Instagram Marketing Tool
Interaction Design & UI/UX: Kickstagram, an Instagram Marketing Tool
Let’s take a look at this interaction design & UI/UX project from the folks over Bachoo Design Studio. Their project is called: Kickstagram, an Instagram Marketing Tool. We’ve seen many Instagram tools out there but a lot of them lack features that will actually make us use it even more. If you remove the UI aspect from Kickstagram that is simple and clean. I liked the features that complement the application as well like Drafting & Posting and especially the Drag & Drop Scheduling is a neat idea.
Bachoo Design Studio is a design team located in Kyiv, Ukraine. They would mainly work into web design, graphic design, UI/UX and more. You should definitely follow their work on Behance.

Before augmented reality becomes the next big thing, here’s what needs to happen
Today’s augmented reality is usually confined to smartphone screens, and even when available with a headset, users have few options for interacting with both the real and the virtual. Gesture controls could solve that problem, and lift AR’s biggest barrier.

Black & White Photography: Switch House, Tate Modern Extension
I come to appreciate those who only take Black & White Photography. In my opinion, it’s a hard style of photography to tackle especially when it comes to the colour, contrast and creative direction. Even though there’s a play with the shadows but it’s still pretty interesting. I took the liberty of featuring the work of Bimal Tailor and his series entitled Switch House, Tate Modern Extension.
This is a photo series by Bimal Tailor is a creative photographer based in London, UK. We have featured his work before on ABDZ. You should definitely follow his Instagram.

HTC and Qualcomm have a stand-alone, Google-free VR headset in the works
During ChinaJoy 2017, HTC said that it teamed up with Qualcomm to provide a stand-alone VR headset for the Chinese market. The details are scarce, but it won’t involve Google, meaning the unit won’t support the Daydream platform.
