Watch: Meet the Painting that Inspired Indie Horror ‘It Comes at Night’

‘It Comes at Night’ uses a classic work of art for both thematic and visual inspiration.

Every hack is aware of the truism that mediocrity borrows and genius steals, mostly because that’s a hacky thing to say when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar. But, there is another, slightly less hacky truism, which is, roughly, that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. Granted, something is only as hacky as the spirit behind it. What does this have to do, you ask, with Trey Edward Shults’ 2017 post-apocalyptic indie chiller It Comes at Night, or MrNerdista’s video about it?

John Waters Picks the 10 Best Movies of 2017

This should be interesting.

John Waters has always been a director on the edge. His counter-culture films are responsible for pushing the boundaries of the public’s cinematic taste buds. So when it comes to the onslaught of end of the year lists we’ll see spouting forth over the course of the next month, perhaps Waters’ should be noted for featuring some of 2017’s freshest voices.

If anything, it certainly is one of the more diverse groups of films you’ll come across. Many awards season contenders are notably absent from the list including The Florida Project, Lady Bird, and perhaps most surprisingly from a man who loves his horror flicks, Get Out.

Art Direction & Illustration: Black Friday, BEWARE!

Art Direction & Illustration: Black Friday, BEWARE!

It’s finally the end of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday craze, aren’t you glad that is over?! WE got hammered in our inboxes from the pre-sale, actual sale, extended and never-ending sales. After all of this, did you buy anything? Was it worth it? This is exactly the intention behind this illustration series by Tough Slate Design, what you think? I think it’s a true representation of our rage for discounted prices for a limited time.

Located in Kiev, Ukraine, Tough Slate Design is a branding & advertising agency. Their Behance profile is filled with different genre of projects, definitetly check it out!

Black Friday makes prices so attractive that nothing can stop the consumer in his buying rage. No matter how dangerous it could be — poisoned by the vivid acid-looking mushrooms, bitten by the deadly snakes or swallowed by the evil plants. Only we can do is to warn — prices are really dangerous!
