Joshua M. Smith never fails to impress and inspires us. We have featured him several times here on Abduzeedo and when I was browsing Behace this morning I saw this beautiful illustrations for the Black Panther movie. They have the look and feel of Joshua’s work, also known as Hydro74. I was right, the project is titled Black Panther x Clarks Originals and it’s a collaboration with the Clarks shoes. It has a classic art-deco feel with a dark and gold theme.

New Trend in Visual Design and Motion Design for the Web?

New Trend in Visual Design and Motion Design for the Web?

I love browsing through sites like Behance and Dribbble for visual design inspiration. It’s amazing to see how much the field has evolved. We can see highly editorial designs that look more and more like beautiful magazine pages. I know that most of these designs are just static mocks beautifully animated, but the important thing is that with today’s technology there are many ways to translate all of these well-crafted visual design work to real products. Apple has shown us that, then other follows like Google, Microsoft and many others.

For this post I’d like to share a few designs from Adam Zielonko, a designer based in Gdynia, Poland. He has a quite solid portfolio but what I liked about these screens were the sort of pattern of solid blocks of color and transitions. It seems like a new trend coming up, so let’s wait and see. Below you can see what I am talking about. Also make sure to check out Adam’s work at https://dribbble.com/adamzielonko/click?type=site

Photography: Exploring the World’s Longest Art Gallery

Photography: Exploring the World’s Longest Art Gallery

Let’s kick it off with the work of Conor MacNeill who is a fine art, landscape and travel photographer based in London, UK. With a following network of more than 250K people, we are following Conor’s work from all over the Globe from Japan, Iceland, China and you name it. Today we are exploring the World’s Longest Art Gallery which is commonly known as the Stockholm Metro. The tunnel rail (tunnelbana) system in Stockholm is more than 105 km (65 miles) long and has 100 stations. Give it a look and I truly believe this place should be marked for your bucket list to be discovered at least once in your lifetime.

Watch: Photography Terms That Don’t Make Any Damn Sense

A look at some of the most frustratingly confusing terminology in image making.

Why do we call lenses that let in more light “fast?” “Stops” are a doubling or halving of light and don’t actually stop anything? International Organization of Standardization = ISO…not IOS? WHY!!??

Yeah, a lot of the terminology used in photography and cinematography is just bonkers and doesn’t make a whole lot of rational sense—which is kind of the case with a lot of professional terminologies—and if you’re confused, amused, or angered by these strange, sometimes misleading terms, you should check out this video by photographers Tony and Chelsea Northrup and laugh—or rage—or flood the comments with your nerdery and accurate explanations.

“Depth of Field…what kind of fancy ass person made this term?”

Style Breakdown: How to Pull Off High and Low Key Lighting

What is high and low key lighting?

There are many ways to light a scene, but before you actually set up any lights on your film set, you’ll have to first figure out what style your scene calls for. Two of the most common styles in cinematography are “high key lighting” and “low key lighting,” which require very different lighting setups to produce very different looking images. In this video, Josh Noel of PremiumBeat explains the differences between high and low key lighting and takes you through the process of how to light scenes with both styles. Check it out below:

There are several important differences between low key lighting and high key lighting that Noel talks about in the video, all of which help characterize both lighting styles in terms of their physical appearance and they emotionally affect audiences. He’s a really quick and very simplified breakdown of the main characteristics of each style.
