Welcome the Future: Mercedes-Benz and smart Are Heading to Austin

Mercedes-Benz at SXSW

In September 2017, Mercedes-Benz organized the first ever me Convention in cooperation with SXSW during the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in Germany. Following the success of the event, Mercedes-Benz is taking the next step: together with smart, they’re bringing the me Convention experience to SXSW 2018.

From March 9–15, 2018, the me Convention will be co-hosting the SXSW programmed content in the Intelligent Future Track at Fairmont Hotel, providing a platform for those shaping our future to #createthenew.

The main hub, however, will be at the iconic Palm Park. Excellent hospitality in a stylish environment provides the ideal setting for networking, meetings, and an open discussion about our future. Whether you want to dive in or just kick back and relax, you can experience the spirit of the me Convention right here in Austin with live streams, speakers, food courts, yoga sessions, and workshops in a festival-like atmosphere.

Additionally, smart will be providing SXSW visitors with a spot for urban innovation and relaxation. Don’t let the world pass you by! Catch seven days of electric discovery and intelligent diversions in the “tiny house of smart” at Palm Park. At the Hilton Hotel you can find the “tiny cube of smart” where smart showcases its successful “smart urban pioneers” startup program aiming to make city life easier.

Join the conversation – together we can shape the future!

Frank And Oak’s locally Made Wool Suiting Campaign Illustrations

Ever since the last feature of Amanda Mocci on ABDZ, she has been crafting her work so beautifully. It can be seen in Fast Company, books and in her personal exploration where I feel she is shining the most. There is so much depth and the contrast is being shown to a whole new level. For the new, Amanda Mocci is an art director and artist based in Montreal, QC. We are sharing a series of illustrations she shared for Frank And Oak, a very popular Men’s Clothing & Women’s Styles. They were promoting their locally Made Wool suits for Men and as you can see. It’s just amazing!

New illustrations created for Frank And Oak’s locally made wool suiting campaign. It was so much fun to work on these! Many thanks to the awesome team at Frank And Oak

Digital Photography: 2019 Mercedes G-Class by Markus Wendler

Mercedes-Benz has recently introduced the 2019 G-Class model, the first redesign in nearly 40 years. A lot of people will mention that this model looks pretty identical but it’s mostly a redesign to improve the on-road dynamics and adding loads of new tech for the next generation. We are taking a look at the work of Markus Wendler, a photographer based in Germany. Markus has worked with many big brands (mostly car companies) like: Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and more. In this collection, we are following the magnificent car in different locations like Iceland, Frankfurt and Utah, USA.

Photographer Markus Wendler shot the new generation of Mercedes’ G Class in 3 looks. It was a massive job spanning the USA and Europe. The results are breath taking automotive landscape shots, showing the off road vehicle mastering different elements.

Abstract Illustration: City Skylines

Abstract Illustration: City Skylines

The amazing people over at RETOKA . just shared another set of their coolest abstract series title Skylines. They also have animated some of them creating a even more nostalgic look. I say nostalgic because it reminds me of the classic Sega Genesis title Streets of Rage for some reason. They are city skylines translated to vertical and colorful lines, including famous places like San Francisco, Panama, Chicago amongst others.

Retoka is an art director and designer based in Barcelona, Spain. For more information make sure to check out http://retoka.com/

Get to Know: 9 UK Artists Performing at SXSW 2018

2018 Showcasing Artist Hardy Caprio

The SXSW Music Festival is not only one of the largest music events in the world, but also boasts a diverse lineup of artists in countless different genres from all over the globe. Creatives, industry pros, and fans travel to Austin each year to see performances from iconic and emerging talent. With so many international and regional artists, not to mention many newer acts, it’s impossible not to find something new to be excited about in our festival lineup if you are on the lookout. With that in mind, we are highlighting a selection of UK artists performing at SXSW 2018.

UK Artists Spotlight

London punks Shame were one of the breakout bands at SXSW last year, and recently released their debut album Songs of Praise to rave reviews just in time for their return to the fest. Part of the next generation of Grime talent, Hardy Caprio (pictured) breathes new life into 90’s R&B and UK Grime instrumentals with his raps. Iconic indie band The Wedding Present made waves with their self-released debut in 1987, and have an extensive catalogue of hits to draw on for their performance in March. Hailing from Manchester, the 90s-inspired pop-rock sound created by Pale Waves has already earned them a spot on BBC Music’s Sound of 2018 and MTV UK’s Brand New 2018. Fans of house music will want to check out Swansea’s Doc Daneeka, who has recently released his debut LP WALK.MAN following years of party-rocking dance singles.

2018 Showcasing Artist Goat Girl

Recently featured in DIY Mag’s “Class of 2018,” Rough Trade’s Goat Girl (pictured) are finishing up their debut album and already on course to have a big year. Grime star AJ Tracey returns to SXSW after his great performances at last year’s event. Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes, who was nominated for a Mercury Prize for Album of the Year in 2015, will perform in anticipation of the release of his latest album World’s Strongest Man in May. Singer-songwriter Jade Bird, who was named Apple Music’s Artist of the Week earlier this month when her new single Lottery released, rounds off today’s list, but there are still plenty of artists performing at SXSW 2018 to discover.
