PRINTS AND TEXTILES FROM POLAND

Works by Polish Art Professors from the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź

The Department of Art at VSU is proud to present Prints and Textiles from Poland, an exhibition on display in the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery from February 13 – March 3, 2017.  This international exhibition showcases a wide range of works created by teachers from the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts Łódź, Poland. Included are works by 20 professors from the Polish university, including textile art, lithographs, digital prints, relief prints, intaglio prints, and silkscreens. These works exemplify the artistic tradition of the Polish city of Łódź, which is an important center of printmaking and textile art. Included are works by established artists, and members of a new generation of contemporary artists in these disciplines.

The array of techniques represented reflects the vast possibilities of artistic research offered at the Academy of fine Arts in Łódź. American students, artists and art lovers are invited to participate in international summer courses Printmaking and Textile Art (PATA) 2017 (www.patanetwork.org). The relationship between VSU and the Academy of Fine Arts has enabled international experiences for our students and faculty in the form of a successful study abroad program during the summer of 2016, multiple student exhibitions, and guest teaching opportunities for VSU faculty at the Academy of Fine Arts, including a workshop run by Blake Pearce, dean of the VSU College of the Arts. VSU Assistant Professor of Art Kalina Winska, a native of Poland, arranged the exhibition through her contacts at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts.

This exhibition will run concurrently with Drawing Connections: Works by Art Faculty from Valdosta State University, which will take place in Gallery Kobro at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland. These two exhibitions celebrate the new and ongoing relationship between our universities.
