Doori Yoo, pianist

Currently serving on the faculty of Pensacola Christian College, Dr. Doori Yoo regularly performs throughout the US and abroad as a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall for solo and chamber performances. She has formed piano duo with pianist Lawrence Quinnett and given performances of wide range of duet/duo repertoire, including Three Pieces for Two Pianos by Ligeti. Former member of New Music Ensemble at FSU, Yoo has performed works by several award-winning living composers, such as Kaija Saariaho and Sebastian Currier.

Yoo has great interest in using music to reach the community. This interest has led her to opportunities to give concerts such as Benefit Concert for World Transformation Information Technology in South Korea, where the profits were used to provide computers and cellular phones and education for technology to the people in underdeveloped countries.  As a devoted educator, Yoo teaches both piano and music theory in college. She regularly gives masterclasses to students through teacher organizations and has worked with students of all ages. Yoo has keen interest in teaching piano technique, specifically on using body effectively for maximum result. This interest in part comes from her many years of extensive study with Brazilian/American pianist and pedagogue Daisy de luca Jaffé, who developed Relaxation Technique after studying with Magda Tagliaferro, a protege of the legendary teacher Alfred Cortot.

Born in Seoul, Yoo started learning the piano at four. After moving to the US, she released her first album of her arrangements and composition for piano when she was sixteen years old. Yoo received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Pensacola Christian College under the tutelage of Daisy de luca Jaffé, and her Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Read Gainsford. Yoo is now based in Pensacola FL.
