From The Ground UP:

Art & Design Foundations

The foundations courses are the first classes art and design students take during their degree program. These foundation courses prepare students for their more advanced work, regardless of the direction they take, whether they go into painting, sculpture, ceramics, interior design, graphic design, or other forms of art and design. By showcasing the foundations work, the Department of Art & Design hopes to show that these beginning courses are very important to building art and design skills “from the ground up.”

This is a big “push pin” show with 125 works by 76 students. For most of these students this is the first time their work was featured in a gallery and they and their instructors are justifiably proud of what they have achieved.

The Foundations program promotes an understanding and application of the basic elements of design, creative and analytical thinking, and problem solving. Foundations courses, which all Art & Design majors take in their first two years, are essential to pursuing a program in the visual arts. Selections from the following foundation studio classes are represented in this exhibition:

Drawing I (ART 1010)

Drawing II (ART 1011)

2D Design (ART 1020)

3D Design (ART 1030)

Computers in Art (ART 2030)
