It’s officially spooky season and the moment we’ve all been waiting for is creeping upon us fast! Halloween is a time to dress up, be festive, party, and eat a ton of candy. With all of these fun activities taking place, we must remember to make healthy decisions to ensure our safety and not get too carried away.
These are helpful tips on how to stay healthy while having fun this Halloween.
- Check your candy Trick-or-Treating is the biggest part about Halloween, but make sure your bag has no tricks and only treats. Candy and other homemade goods from strangers can be laced with poison or any other harmful chemicals. Throw away any candy that looks tampered with, is not fully closed, commercially wrapped, or is discolored. Do not accept any homemade treats from anyone you do not know personally. Do not eat any of your candy until it is checked thoroughly.
- Apportion your candy After checking your candy you will want to indulge into those sweet treats right away, but when is enough, enough? Try dividing your candy into shares a day so you do not overeat and upset your stomach. As delicious as candy is, it is not the healthiest.
- Watch your drinks/food While partying you must always watch over any drink or food and stay alert. If you are not aware, someone could spike your drink or contaminate your food. This could harm your body and cause health disruption. This could also lead to more dangerous situations depending on what the contamination is. Try keeping your drink in your hand and keeping up with the same cup. Serve yourself and do not let anyone else get your food and drinks. Avoid drinking anything that is not commercially packaged.
With traditional trick-or-treating occuring every Halloween, it is always a candy overload in one night. However, there are also many events and parties that lead up to that great finale involving even more candy. While your sweet tooth may be having the best time, your health might pay for the aftermath. Try incorporating more healthy snacks into your Halloween events while still keeping it terrifyingly tasty! Too much candy could cause health issues to occur.
